Hull and cargo survey

Close view of a vessel's hull, plating and side openings

What it is

Hull surveys cover the vessel itself — hull, machinery, equipment — while cargo surveys cover the goods carried. CMSC covers both, including barges, self-welded structures and shipboard oil and gas equipment, on behalf of shipowners, hull underwriters and P&I correspondents.

Typical cases

  • Hull damage after quay contact, grounding or collision
  • Machinery damage: main engine, auxiliaries, refrigeration plant
  • Draft survey on loading or discharge of bulk cargo
  • Condition survey prior to charter or sale
  • Inspection of barges and self-welded structures before commissioning
  • On-hire and off-hire surveys
